Situation : Bézaves village (above Saint Joseph) This site is fitted out, covered and maintained by the " Pays d'accueil du Sud Sauvage" Association.
GPS : WGS84 S -21.35579 E 55.61337
Altitude
: 450
m ASL
Access : Visible from Saint-Joseph and from the RN 2, particularly when the road is facing island centre and goes along the Rivière des Ramparts. Remarkable by the nearness of a water tank, situated between two peaks. From Saint-Pierre, the déco is on the right peak. Take the RD3, just before the bridge over Rivière des Ramparts and follow the road indications " PLAINE DES GREGUES ". Go up all the way to Bézaves approach ramp (about 4 km), until a portion of straight road where you can see a big red eucalyptus on the low right-hand side. At the end of this straight line, there is an only house on the right just before the bend and a soil parking on the left in the inside of the bend. Leave the vehicle on this car-park. The path to the takeoff is at the bottom of a straight line from a dirt track which leaves the RD3 in the middle of the bend.
Aerology
: Takeoff orientation : Southeast in the South.
The most favorable period is from September till December, from 10 o'clock when
sugar cane
fields are cut.
During other seasons, especially when everything is green, is is better to wait
until noon except when the wind allows soaring.
Privileged meteorological
situations : dominant meteorological Wind from the North in Northeast creating
a protected
zone under the wind, light wind from Southeast in the South or barométrique
swamp.
In some ways, by strong conditions, this site has a certain resemblance with
that from Bellemène to Saint-Paul. Same typical takeoff which allows to reach
the downstream
cliffs with
difficulty if one risks taking off when there
is no thermic and where the breeze or the wind fall again in rollers on the
top of the cliff, putting back down the poor hangglider. If the crenel is judicious,
ascent is made immediately or between the déco and the cliff. The ascent is
favored by the
presence of Piton de l'Entonoir, situated on the
West by the déco and higer, on which you can lean.
Flight plan : Advantageous thermic wait for the hang-glider on the plain which leads to the coast. More than an hour flights are common, even in two-seater, with landings on the Agricultural Secondary school rugby stadium. Possible transition towards Petite-Ile and towards heights (formal proof was given by France championship competitors, who, about 100 m above the déco, managed to leave westward.
Landing
ground : WGS

S -21.35705 - E 55.60930.
(officially being authorized at the moment): The foot-ball stadium of the Caverne
des Hirondelles, which one can not join unless obtaining 400
m height of from the déco and which
presents certain danger, because of the immediate nearness of " Piton Babet
". At the moment, most of the landings are made on an agricultural ground in
fallows which can be joined in sharpness and which allows "to scratch" until
the last moment due to its place at the feet of Piton Carosse (this landing
ground is about to become official), or on Agricultural
Secondary school rugby stadium
only if you rise 200 m from the déco.
